SERMON ON THE SEA
12 1So Jesus and his disciples went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. 2But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 3When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
4And the crowd gathered around him, but was so large that he got back in the boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. So he began teaching them many things.
5“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. 6For the fruit of Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there are no Rules.
7Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but treat him as a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters.
8Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. 9Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, value others above yourselves, not looking only to your own interests but each to the interests of others.
10Get rid of all bitterness and brawling, as well as every form of malice. 11Instead, be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another.
12Be filled with Spirit, sharing inspirational psalms, hymns, and songs to one another. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything!
13Rejoice always. I say it again: Rejoice! 14Let your affableness be evident to all. 15Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your needs to God. 16And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will be a guard over your hearts and your minds.
17Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. 18And, over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
18Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is dignified, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is noble or praiseworthy—think about such things.

12 1Καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπῆλθον ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ εἰς ἔρημον τόπον κατ’ ἰδίαν. 2καὶ εἶδον αὐτοὺς ὑπάγοντας καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν πολλοὶ καὶ πεζῇ ἀπὸ πασῶν τῶν πόλεων συνέδραμον ἐκεῖ καὶ προῆλθον αὐτούς. 3καὶ ἐξελθὼν εἶδεν πολὺν ὄχλον καὶ ἐσπλαγχνίσθη ἐπ’ αὐτούς, ὅτι ἦσαν ὡς πρόβατα μὴ ἔχοντα ποιμένα, καὶ ἤρξατο διδάσκειν αὐτοὺς πολλά.
4Καὶ συνάγεται πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλος πλεῖστος, ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα καθῆσθαι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἦσαν. καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς πολλὰ λέγων· 5Ἴστε, ἀδελφοί καὶ ἀδελφαί· ἔστω δὲ πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ταχὺς εἰς τὸ ἀκοῦσαι, βραδὺς εἰς τὸ λαλῆσαι, βραδὺς εἰς ὀργήν· 6ὁ δὲ καρπὸς τοῦ πνεύματός ἐστιν ἀγάπη καὶ χαρὰ καὶ εἰρήνη καὶ μακροθυμία καὶ χρηστότης καὶ ἀγαθωσύνη καὶ πίστις καὶ πραΰτης καὶ ἐγκράτεια· κατὰ τῶν τοιούτων οὐκ ἔστιν νόμος.
7Πρεσβυτέρῳ μὴ ἐπιπλήξῃς ἀλλὰ παρακάλει ὡς πατέρα, νεωτέρους ὡς ἀδελφούς, πρεσβυτέρας ὡς μητέρας, νεωτέρας ὡς ἀδελφὰς. 8ὁ ἥλιος μὴ ἐπιδυέτω ἐπὶ τῷ παροργισμῷ ὑμῶν. 9μηδὲν κατ’ ἐριθείαν μηδὲ κατὰ κενοδοξίαν ἀλλὰ ἀλλήλους ἡγούμενοι ὑπερέχοντας ἑαυτῶν, μὴ τὰ ἑαυτῶν ἕκαστος σκοποῦντες ἀλλὰ καὶ τὰ ἑτέρων ἕκαστοι.
10Πᾶσα πικρία καὶ καὶ κραυγὴ ἀρθήτω ἀφ’ ὑμῶν σὺν πάσῃ κακίᾳ. 11γίνεσθε δὲ εἰς ἀλλήλους χρηστοί, εὔσπλαγχνοι, χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς.
12Πληροῦσθε ἐν πνεύματι, λαλοῦντες ἑαυτοῖς ἐν ψαλμοῖς καὶ ὕμνοις καὶ ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς, ᾄδοντες καὶ ψάλλοντες τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν τῷ κυρίῳ, εὐχαριστοῦντες πάντοτε ὑπὲρ πάντων.
13Χαίρετε πάντοτε· πάλιν ἐρῶ, χαίρετε. 14τὸ ἐπιεικὲς ὑμῶν γνωσθήτω πᾶσιν ἀνθρώποις. 15μηδὲν μεριμνᾶτε, ἀλλ’ ἐν παντὶ τῇ προσευχῇ καὶ τῇ δεήσει μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τὰ αἰτήματα ὑμῶν γνωριζέσθω πρὸς τὸν θεόν. 16καὶ ἡ εἰρήνη τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ ὑπερέχουσα πάντα νοῦν φρουρήσει τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ νοήματα ὑμῶν.
17Ἐνδύσασθε οὖν σπλάγχνα οἰκτιρμοῦ, χρη-στότητα, ταπεινοφροσύνην, πραΰτητα, μακρο-θυμίαν, ἀνεχόμενοι ἀλλήλων καὶ χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς ἐάν τις πρός τινα ἔχῃ μομφήν· 18ἐπὶ πᾶσιν δὲ τούτοις τὴν ἀγάπην, ὅ ἐστιν σύνδεσμος τῆς τελειότητος.
18Τὸ λοιπόν, ἀδελφοί καὶ ἀδελφαί, ὅσα ἐστὶν ἀληθῆ, ὅσα σεμνά, ὅσα δίκαια, ὅσα ἁγνά, ὅσα προσφιλῆ, ὅσα εὔφημα, εἴ τις ἀρετὴ καὶ εἴ τις ἔπαινος, ταῦτα λογίζεσθε·
