JESUS AT THE HOUSE OF A PHARISEE
11 1When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.
2Now, a woman in that town, a “sinner,” learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
3As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and poured perfume on them.
4When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus over saw this, he said: “If this man were really a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is: a sinner!”
5And Jesus answered him: “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
6“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
7“Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you…
8Shove off.”
9And turning to the woman, he looked at her and said, “Your sins are forgiven. Do not let anyone judge you any more.”
JESUS AT THE HOUSE OF A PHARISEE
The key to this story is she is the actual host of the party. She is the one who has mastered grace. Simon doesn’t know how to show love because he’s a rigid authority figure. She is the teacher.
